CAREER
- Started teaching in 1976 and retired in 2010.
- Taught English and Afrikaans and was a Senior Certificate Examination sub-examiner for Afrikaans first language HG for ten years.
- Received a merit award while teaching at Bredasdorp High School and became Head of Department at Cradock High School in 1985.
- Acted as Administrator for the Town Counsel of Lingelihle near Cradock (April 1989-March 1993) This entailed management of all aspects of local government as well as chairing negotiations between representatives of the Community and the Government
- Became Deputy Principal at the Technical High School in Kimberley on 1 April 1993.
- Part time Lecturer at FS Technicon in Communication in English, at the Kimberley Campus, in 1994
- Became Senior Deputy Principal at Hottentots-Holland High School from October 1994 and also acted as Principal from March – June 2000.
- Worked from 2012 to 2017 on contract for the WCED in the Directorate for Quality Assurance as a Supervisor in Whole School Evaluation.
- Was chairperson of an ad hoc committee acting on behalf of approximately 1200 teachers to negotiate matters pertaining to transformation in Education. Part of the assignment was the formulation of a petition to the Minister of Education as well as the MEC for Education in the Western Cape.
- Had a reputation as the head of discipline at Hottentots-Holland High School, for being strict but fair and just and was regarded by the learners as a father figure at school. This strongly contributed to the maintenance and enhancement of an academic climate in the school.
- Was responsible for disciplinary hearings of learners in cases of serious misconduct and was often consulted by principals and SGB members of other schools in this regard, because of a thorough knowledge of the Schools Act as well as experience and skills with regards to disciplinary hearings.

- Author of an article “A New Approach to Discipline in High Schools” which was published in the S.A.O.U. magazine in 1999.
- Wrote the code of conduct of Hottentots-Holland High School.
- Was a speaker with the topic “An Approach to Discipline in Schools” at an S.A.O.U. training seminar for deputy heads on 18 October 1999.
- Represented the staff as member of the SGB, was the secretary of the SGB and also a member of the finance committee since 1997.
- Received an award from the WCED for excellence in Secondary School leadership.
- Received a National Teaching Award for Life-time Achievement in Education in 2009.
